Assemble Footscray

Backed by AustralianSuper and built by Hickory, Assemble Footscray features a Build-to-Rent-to-Own model. The precinct includes 40% affordable housing, retail space, a heritage facade, and a pedestrian link to the Maribyrnong River. The five buildings use a material palette directly inspired by local Indigenous Country and regional geology.

To ensure high-quality construction, builder Hickory utilized precast modular segments and built full-scale on-site apartment prototypes before mass assembly. The project targets an impressive 7.5 to 8-star NatHERS rating, operating entirely fossil-fuel-free with passive solar positioning, commercial bio-composters, and flexible, grow-with-you townhouse layouts.
