Cairns Mental Health Unit

The new three-storey Cairns Mental Health Unit provides 53 beds, comprising a 10-bed Mental Health Intensive Care Unit, 38 beds across two adult acute Mental Health Inpatient Units, and 5 additional integrated beds. The facility is purpose-built to support recovery with mountain and ocean views while balancing privacy and a therapeutic environment.

Designed in consultation with staff, service users, and the local Indigenous community, the unit incorporates contemporary clinical design with flexible spaces catering to diverse needs and room for future expansion. It co-locates inpatient and community mental health services, connecting seamlessly with existing hospital infrastructure.
