Woodford Youth Detention Centre
The Woodford Youth Detention Centre is a significant infrastructure project designed to replace traditional correctional models with a therapeutic, trauma-informed environment focused on rehabilitation. Spanning a 12-hectare site, the facility will provide an initial 80 beds across two campuses, featuring smaller, more domestic-style accommodation units to create a less institutional feel.
The design emphasizes education, vocational training, and connection to Country, incorporating dedicated cultural spaces developed in partnership with the Jinibara People to better support First Nations youth. Construction is currently underway and is expected to be completed with the facility operational by late 2027.
